Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) ECM Operator

The RCIED threat to EOD operatives around the world is an ever growing problem. Understanding the RCIED threat and correctly deploying countermeasures is vital to the continued success in defeating the terrorist. The EOD ECM course has two variants to match customer requirements:

EOD ECM technicians

The aim of this programme is to provide EOD technicians with necessary knowledge of the RCIEDs and the terrorist tactics in order to better mitigate the threat. It will also address the potential issues when deploying ECM to ensure the task flows efficiently and effective ECM placement is achieved.

ECM operators in support of EOD technicians

A number of countries around the world have ECM specialists that support the EOD technician in a command/RCIED scenario. This setup allows the EOD technician to focus on the render-safe procedures while the ECM operator assists in formulating the RCIED threat and concentrates on ECM deployment. The aim of this course is to take non-EOD technicians and train them to support an EOD team with ECM. They will be taught the different types of IEDs, and the course focuses on the RCIED threat. Students are also trained in the conduct of an EOD task to ensure that ECM assistance is given at the relevant point and does not hinder the task. The course also addresses potential issues when deploying ECM to ensure effective ECM placement and teaches the ECM operator how to brief the EOD technician.
