Training Programmes

HMS International City and Guilds accredited maritime security training courses equip personnel with the essential knowledge and practical skills to deal with the threats currently facing the maritime domain. We can deliver each training programme at a range of levels to suit your particular needs.

 

First Responder Training

The First Responder Training course provides security professionals with the skills and understanding necessary to successfully respond to a terrorist incident.  The course has been designed to advance the ability of maritime security, coastguard and law enforcement specialists who will be first on the scene in the event of a terrorist attack.  Students will gain a thorough overview of global and regional threats, the characteristics of terrorist devices and methods of attack, as well as learning and practising response procedures and appropriate first responsive actions. 

This course is City & Guilds accredited, providing students with a professional and transferrable qualification. Length of course can be flexible depending on requirements and training can be delivered in-house or at an off-site location. 

 

Shipboard and Port Facility Search

This course provides maritime security personnel with the ability to plan and execute effective search operations onboard vessels, in ports and on offshore facilities. The programme is applicable at all levels of responsibility from the CSO down to those conducting search activities and includes modules covering threat analysis, search planning, procedures and first response actions.

 

 

 

 

 

The course is underpinned by two security guides Shipboard Search: What You Need To Know! and Access Control and Shipboard Search: First-Responder Guide written by HMS  maritime experts and published by maritime publishers Shiptalk.

 

 

 

 

Advanced Maritime Threat and Shipboard Security

This course, based on, but in advance of the requirements of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, trains security personnel in maritime security awareness with regard to the full array of threats currently facing vessels, ports and offshore facilities. Students will gain an in-depth knowledge of the evolving global security threat to the maritime domain in relation to their specific area of operations.Maritime training

HMS empowers students to formulate and execute effective security plans and procedures. Aspects of security not normally covered in depth on similar courses are given what HMS deems to be an appropriate level of attention and detail, thereby providing an enhanced capability and understanding of critical subjects including:

  • Assessment and analysis of maritime security threats supported by the TRITON database
  • Conducting effective access control and search operations – area, cargo, personal, luggage and vehicle search
  • First response actions in respect of security breaches involving stowaways, contraband, dangerous goods (WMD), weapons and explosive devices
  • Protective measures to be taken in respect of acts of piracy; explosive blast mitigation including channelling and venting; and creating an effective layered defence against potential physical security breaches
  • Incident management and containment including post-incident recovery and evidence collection and preservation

 

Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) Search Course

Applicable to clients requiring the facility to conduct underwater search operations, whether on a ship’s hull, in a port facility or other areas where security has to be established and maintained below the waterline.

The programme provides designated operators with the necessary knowledge and skills to plan and execute underwater search operations utilizing a purpose-designed ROV with integrated sonar, navigation and camera capability.

Training is given at clients’ preferred location or at the HMS UK diver training facility.

 

Underwater Diver Search

Equips personnel engaged in diver-based underwater search activity with the necessary knowledge and skills to plan and execute underwater seabed or ship’s hull search operations.

Training is given at the customer’s preferred location or at the HMS UK diver training facility. Equipment can be supplied by either HMS or the client as appropriate.
